Passport and Brazil Visa
Passport– A Passport is obviously required to travel out of the United States. What most travelers do not know is that there are lots of countries including Brazil that require you to have at least 6 months of eligibility on your passport on the day you enter the country. Check your passport for the expiration date to avoid any complications.
Brazil Tourist Visa –(The Visa requirement has been suspended as of June 2019 and is no longer necessary for traveling to Brazil)This is a required document that has to be stamped into your passport by the Brazilian consulate prior to entering the country. This process is lengthy and requires a little planning. It requires that you either go to one of the many consulates in the U.S. or send your passport to an affiliate who will do it for you. It really depends on where you live, how much time you have and if you can do without your passport for other travel for a couple of weeks prior to your trip. Once you obtain as Brazilian Visa it is valid for 10 years.
The process goes like this. You need a 2×2 passport photo that you can obtain at your local post office. A copy of your driver’s license, and your actual passport (not a copy). These documents along with payment by a post office money order for the service and the Visa
charge should accompany your documents in a Fed Ex envelope to a Visa agency. Before you send off the documents you need to go to fill out a questionnaire, get a confirmation number and that too needs to accompany the documents. This process can take up to a month or more to complete.
